Stripe Connect
Stripe Connect lets you accept online payments directly from your clients through Seleckt. When a client receives an invoice, they can pay it right from the invoice link -- no bank transfers, no chasing cheques, no awkward conversations about overdue payments.
What Is Stripe Connect?
Stripe is one of the most widely used online payment platforms in the world. Seleckt integrates with Stripe through Stripe Connect, which means:
- Your clients pay you directly. Payments go to your Stripe account, not to Seleckt.
- Seleckt never holds your money. We facilitate the connection, but the funds flow between your client and your Stripe account.
- It is secure. Stripe handles all card processing and is PCI-DSS compliant, which means card details are protected to the highest industry standard.
Tip: You do not need to be a Stripe expert to set this up. If you can fill out a form, you can connect your account.
Plan requirement
Stripe Connect is available on Plus plans and above. If you are on the Free plan, the Settings > Payments page shows an upgrade prompt with pricing information. Upgrade to Plus or higher to enable online payments.
Setting Up Stripe Connect
If You Already Have a Stripe Account
- Go to Settings > Payments.
- Click Set Up Stripe.
- You are redirected to Stripe's website.
- Log in to your existing Stripe account.
- Authorise Seleckt to connect.
- You are redirected back to Seleckt. Your account is now linked.
If You Do Not Have a Stripe Account
- Go to Settings > Payments.
- Click Set Up Stripe.
- You are redirected to Stripe's website.
- Follow the steps to create a new Stripe account. You will need to provide:
- Your business details (name, address, type of business)
- Your bank account details (where payouts will go)
- Identity verification (Stripe may ask for a photo ID depending on your region)
- Once your account is set up and verified, authorise Seleckt to connect.
- You are redirected back to Seleckt. You are all set.
The whole process takes about 5-10 minutes. Stripe may take a day or two to fully verify your identity, but you can usually start accepting payments right away.
Tip: Have your bank account details and a form of ID handy before you start. This makes the setup process much smoother.
What Happens After Setup
Once Stripe Connect is active:
Clients Can Pay Online
When you send an invoice through Seleckt, your client receives an email with a link. They click the link, review the invoice, and pay with their credit or debit card. The payment is processed by Stripe and deposited into your connected bank account.
You Get Notified
Seleckt notifies you when a payment is made. The invoice status updates automatically from Sent to Paid, so you always know where things stand. You can configure these notifications in your Notification Settings.
Invoice Statuses Update Automatically
No more manually marking invoices as paid. When a client pays through Stripe, the invoice status changes in real time. You can see payment confirmations in the invoice detail page and in your Activity Log.
Payouts
After a client pays an invoice, the money goes to your Stripe account. From there, Stripe transfers it to your bank account based on your payout schedule.
- Default payout schedule: Stripe typically pays out on a rolling basis (for example, 2 business days after the payment is received, depending on your country).
- You can customise your payout schedule in your Stripe dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com.
Seleckt does not control or delay your payouts -- that is entirely between you and Stripe.
Tip: Log in to your Stripe dashboard occasionally to review your payouts and make sure everything is flowing as expected. Stripe also sends email notifications for each payout.
Fees
Stripe's processing fee is the only fee that applies to each online payment. Stripe charges a processing fee on each transaction. The exact rate depends on your country and your Stripe account settings. Typical rates are around 2.9% + a small fixed fee per transaction. These fees are deducted by Stripe before the payout reaches your bank account.
Seleckt does not charge a platform fee on Connect payments.
Troubleshooting
"Your Stripe account is pending verification"
Stripe sometimes needs additional information to verify your identity or business. Log in to your Stripe dashboard and check for any pending requirements. Once you complete them, your account is fully active.
Payments are not appearing
Make sure your Stripe account is connected and fully verified. Check the Settings > Payments page in Seleckt to confirm the connection status. If the connection looks fine, check your Stripe dashboard for any flagged payments.
Client says the payment failed
Ask your client to double-check their card details and try again. If the problem persists, it is likely an issue with their card (insufficient funds, expired card, or bank decline). Stripe shows detailed error messages on the payment page to help the client understand what went wrong.
