Storage & Limits

Understand your storage quota and gallery limits

Storage & Limits

Every Seleckt plan comes with a storage quota and, on the Free plan, a gallery limit. This guide explains how storage works, what counts toward your quota, and what happens as you approach your limit.

Storage Quotas by Plan

Plan Included Storage Overage Cap
Free 5 GB --
Plus 100 GB 250 GB
Pro 1 TB 2 TB
Studio 2 TB 5 TB
Enterprise 5 TB 10 TB

For context, a typical wedding gallery with 500 edited JPEG photos at high quality takes up roughly 3--5 GB. A portrait session with 50 photos is usually well under 1 GB.

What Counts Toward Storage

Your storage quota is used by uploaded photos -- specifically, the original files you upload to your galleries. This includes:

  • Full-resolution original files (JPEG, PNG, WebP)
  • RAW files if you upload them
  • Photos in both published and draft galleries

The following do not count toward your storage:

  • Thumbnails and preview images generated by Seleckt
  • Invoices, contracts, and other documents
  • Client account data

Tip: Collections don't use any extra storage. A collection simply groups photos that already live in the gallery, so each photo is only counted once -- as a gallery photo.

Tip: If you primarily upload JPEGs (which most photographers do for client delivery), your storage will go further than if you upload RAW files. A single RAW file can be 25--80 MB, while a high-quality JPEG is typically 5--15 MB.

  • Free plan: You can create up to 3 galleries. Once you hit this limit, you'll need to delete an existing gallery or upgrade to a paid plan to create more.
  • All paid plans: Unlimited galleries. Create as many as you need.

Gallery limits are based on the total number of galleries in your account, including both active and expired galleries.

Checking Your Storage Usage

You can see how much storage you're using at a glance:

  1. Look at the sidebar in your dashboard.
  2. You'll see a storage progress bar showing how much space you've used out of your total quota.
  3. For a more detailed breakdown, go to Settings > Billing where you'll see your storage usage alongside your plan details.

Tip: Check your storage usage periodically, especially after uploading large galleries. This helps you plan ahead and avoid hitting your limit unexpectedly.

Storage Warnings

As you approach your storage limit, your dashboard storage indicator shows an in-dashboard badge so you have advance notice. These are visual badges only -- Seleckt does not send 80% or 95% warning emails.

80% -- Soft Warning

When you've used 80% of your storage quota, the storage indicator shows a "80% storage used" badge.

This is your signal to either clean up old galleries or consider upgrading your plan.

95% -- Critical Warning

When you've used 95% of your storage quota, the storage indicator shows a red "95% storage used -- approaching limit" badge.

At this point, you have very little room left. Uploading a large gallery could push you over the limit.

What Happens When You Hit the Limit

If you reach 100% of your storage quota, the storage indicator shows a "Storage limit reached -- uploads blocked" badge, and:

  • Uploads are blocked. You won't be able to upload new photos until you free up space or upgrade.
  • Existing galleries are unaffected. Your published galleries, client access, and downloads all continue to work normally.
  • Other features still work. You can still send invoices, manage contracts, and do everything else -- only uploads are restricted.

To resume uploading, you have two options:

  1. Free up space by deleting galleries you no longer need.
  2. Upgrade your plan to get a larger storage quota.

Overage Billing

On paid plans, if you exceed your included storage quota you can continue uploading up to your plan's overage cap (see table above). Overage storage is billed at RM 0.15 per GB per month, charged daily as a line item on your next subscription invoice.

  • Free plan: No overage. Uploads are blocked at 5 GB -- upgrade to continue.
  • Paid plans: Uploads continue up to the overage cap. You'll receive an email notification when overage billing starts.
  • At the overage cap: Uploads are blocked until you free up space or upgrade.

Tip: If you regularly exceed your included quota, upgrading to the next tier is usually more cost-effective than paying overage. See Plans & Pricing for a full comparison.

Tips for Managing Storage

Here are some practical ways to keep your storage usage in check:

  1. Archive completed projects: Once a client has downloaded their photos and you've delivered the final files, consider deleting the gallery from Seleckt. You should always keep your own local or cloud backup regardless.
  2. Upload JPEGs, not RAWs: Unless your workflow specifically requires it, upload high-quality JPEGs for client delivery. They look great and take up far less space.
  3. Use gallery expiry: Set expiry dates on galleries so that old galleries are automatically flagged for cleanup.
  4. Review storage regularly: Make it a habit to check your storage bar in the sidebar after each project delivery.
